The Commissioner for Victims and Survivors, Joe McVey, recently attended two important events hosted by SEFF, providing valuable opportunities to reflect, remember and hear directly from victims and survivors.

The Commissioner was honoured to attend ‘The Quiet Courage of Women’, a moving service of remembrance, healing and hope held at St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral in Armagh. The event recognised the remarkable strength, resilience and contribution of women throughout the Troubles/conflict, acknowledging the vital role they played in supporting their families and communities during some of the most challenging times.

A poignant highlight of the service was the display of eight memorial quilts, representing more than 600 victims and survivors of the Troubles/conflict. Together, they served as a powerful reminder of lives forever changed and the enduring impact of the past on individuals, families and communities.

Continuing his engagement with victims and survivors, the Commissioner also attended the SEFF East Region Members Meeting in Lisburn. The meeting provided an important opportunity to listen to members’ experiences, discuss the issues that continue to affect victims and survivors, and engage directly with SEFF staff and members.

Listening to those with lived experience remains central to the Commission’s work. These conversations help shape future research, inform policy advice and ensure that the voices, experiences and priorities of victims and survivors continue to influence the Commission’s engagement with government and stakeholders.

The Commission extends its thanks to SEFF for the invitation to both events and for its continued commitment to supporting victims and survivors across Northern Ireland.
