The Commissioner for Victims and Survivors and Commission staff joined victims and survivors from across Northern Ireland in marking this year’s Day of Reflection by attending events hosted by WAVE Trauma Centre and Corrymeela.

The Commissioner attended WAVE’s Day of Reflection event in the Garden of Hope before Commission staff joined the event at St Peter’s Cathedral organised by Corrymeela. Both events provided an opportunity for victims and survivors to remember loved ones, reflect on the lasting impact of the Troubles/conflict and acknowledge that, for many, the effects of the past continue to be felt today.

At the Corrymeela event, the Commissioner and members of the Commission’s Victims and Survivors Forum shared personal reflections drawn from their lived experience, highlighting the importance of remembrance, acknowledgement and ensuring that the voices of victims and survivors continue to be heard.

For many victims and survivors, the Day of Reflection is an important opportunity to come together in a safe and supportive environment, recognising loss, resilience and the ongoing journey of recovery. It also provides space to acknowledge the different experiences of the Troubles/conflict and the importance of continuing to build understanding and hope for the future.

The Commission thanks both WAVE Trauma Centre and Corrymeela for providing meaningful opportunities for reflection and remembrance, while ensuring the experiences of victims and survivors remain at the heart of the day.
