Secretary of State for NI meets the Commissioner and Forum

In August, Commissioner Joe McVey and members of the Victims and Survivors Forum met with the new Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Sir Chris Bryant, to discuss the issues and priorities affecting victims and survivors.

The meeting provided an important opportunity for Forum Members to speak directly to the Secretary of State, sharing their lived experiences and highlighting the ongoing challenges, concerns and support needs of victims and survivors of the Troubles/conflict.

Discussion also provided an opportunity to consider how government can better respond to the needs of victims and survivors and the importance of ensuring their voices continue to inform decisions that affect them.

The Commission welcomed the Secretary of State’s willingness to listen and engage directly with Forum Members and looks forward to continued engagement on the issues that matter to victims and survivors
