Sir Kenneth Bloomfield Tribute

We mourn the passing of Sir Kenneth Bloomfield, a distinguished public servant whose life was marked by unwavering dedication to peace, justice, and reconciliation in Northern Ireland.  As the first Victims Commissioner, Sir Kenneth brought compassion, integrity, and clarity to one of the most sensitive and painful legacies of the Troubles.

His landmark 1998 report, We Will Remember Them, laid the foundations for what would become the Commission for Victims and Survivors.  In it, he gave voice to many who had suffered in silence, advocating for recognition, dignity, and support for all victims, regardless of background or circumstance.  Sir Kenneth’s work was not only visionary but deeply human.  He understood that healing required more than policy, it demanded empathy, courage, and truth.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
