Conducting research is essential for us to assess the needs of victims and survivors, improve their lives and change policy for the better. It is also one of our key statutory duties outlined in The Victims and Survivors (Northern Ireland) Order 2006.
The Commission’s policy and research team carry out specific research and consult with the victims and survivors sector. The evidence gathered is then presented to the Northern Ireland Executive and the Secretary of State.
Some of the advice papers we have submitted include - proposals for a pension for those severely injured during the Troubles, the effects of welfare reform on victims and survivors and how legacy issues and ‘the past’ should be dealt with, and many more.
